Why Post-Quantum Cryptography Now?

Post-Quantum Cryptography is already becoming crucial for embedded and (I)IoT systems, even though practical quantum computers are not yet available. This urgency stems from the long operational lifespans of many devices which means they must be secured today against future threats. Additionally, there's the risk of "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks, where encrypted data is intercepted now and may be decrypted later using quantum capabilities. Regulatory pressure and the growing scale of IoT networks further emphasize the need for early adoption of quantum-resistant cryptography.

However, implementing PQC in embedded and IoT environments presents significant challenges. These devices typically have limited processing power and memory, while post-quantum algorithms are generally more resource-intensive than classical ones such as RSA (Rivest–Shamir–Adleman) or ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). Since most current microcontrollers lack native PQC support, efficient software implementations are essential. Migration also requires crypto-agility – the ability to switch cryptographic algorithms flexibly – which is often difficult in existing system architectures. Moreover, PQC implementations must be protected against new attack vectors such as side-channel and fault-injection attacks. Finally, the ongoing standardization process introduces uncertainty in selecting the most suitable algorithms.

What to Expect from the Online Conference

The PQC conference delivers a compact yet comprehensive learning experience, combining six practical, 45-minute presentations with live Q&A opportunities and access to session recordings.
